Audi R8 2015
Approaching almost 8 years now, the original R8 heralded an entrance into the Supercar market for Audi, and such was the brilliance of that original design it hardly looks like it has aged. Testament to the original, the updated version’s aesthetics are simply an evolution with subtle improvements to the bodywork. As with the updated TT, Audi have taken a more aggressive and angular approach to the exterior with the newly designed headlights being the most noticeable change. Initially available in the V10 flavour, the R8 has the latest Porsche 911 firmly in it’s sights. The 5.2L engine is teamed with a twin clutch S-Tronic transmission delivering either 533bhp or 602bhp for the V10 Plus model (with that particular model hitting 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 205mph).
Sharing a chassis with the Lamborghini Huracan is no bad thing, it’s 40 percent stiffer than before improving the overall handling. The use of carbon fibre and aluminium is put to fine effect in trimming weight by 50kg over the previous model. The V10 gets an integrated pop-up spoiler whilst the V10 Plus gets a fixed rear wing adding to it’s race ready look. Inside the cockpit sees a needed update with all focus on Audi’s new TFT screen – replacing the dials.
Steering wheel mounted controls allow you to control the exhaust sound from loud to, well… obnoxious.
If you’re looking for an everyday supercar, then look no further than the 2015 Audi R8. A much improved version of the already mighty previous iteration, with performance increases and a more polished exterior. Expect a V8, E-Tron and perhaps a turbocharged V6 model to launch in the coming year.Get it! | TBA
