Mercedes AMG GT

Mercedes AMG GT

Once a sector of the market dominated by Porsche and its formidable 911, the £100K / $160K every-day supercar bracket is welcoming another entrant in the form of the Mercedes AMG GT. An already crowded group, Mercedes have their work cut out to compete with the likes of the Audi R8, the Jaguar F-Type R, and the BMW M6. We have no doubt the AMG GT will offer a superb blend of comfort and performance along with the particularly striking aesthetics courtesy of Mercedes’ new design direction. In the uprated GT “S” spec the 503bhp on tap makes the dash to 62mph take little over 3.8 seconds firmly planting the AMG GT ahead of it’s competitors. This extremely capable performance is driven by the twin-turbo 4 litre V8 borrowed from the 2015 Mercedes C63 AMG. The outgoing 6.2 litre V8 produced a god like sound track, so let’s hope this new smaller turbo’d engine hits similar notes. Should Porsche be worried? Time will tell.
