Porsche 959

Porsche 959

You’d be lucky to have ever spotted one of the 337 production models on the road, and anyone but hardcore Porsche fans wouldn’t notice this isn’t your average 911. The super wide stance and elongated rear give the game away, a hint that this car is not quite standard, an altogether more special prospect Porsche had been hiding up their sleeve. Many petrolheads would consider the 959 as being to Porsche, what the F40 was to Ferrari, the ultimate marque in their line-up of supercars with performance and style reaching near perfection. Manufactured between 1986 to 1989, firstly it was Porsche’s answer for an illustrious Group B rally car entrant, which eventually evolved into this road going model. The performance of the 959 was simply on another level from the 911, the twin-turbo’d flat six delivering 530bhp in the S varient. This meant 62mph could be hit in 3.7 seconds dead, whilst a top speed of 209mph would provide figures that cemented the 959’s position in the supercar hall of fame. The all wheel drive configuration gave stability and immense cornering abilities adding to the attraction for anyone with a cool quarter million to splash out on the ulmimate track toy. In our eyes this is the ultimate 1980’s supercar, you can keep your Countach and F40, well on second thoughts we’ d like all three please…
